Tap the time in each step to start a build-in timer and cook with a little more ease and flow. Be sure to have your volume up to hear the timer chimes!
    1. Preheat and Prepare:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line or grease a loaf pan.
🌿Mindful Moment: Feel the warmth begin to build in the kitchen. As you grease the pan, do it slowly — like you're preparing a home for something special.
👧 Kid Prompt: “Can you brush the pan gently like painting? What kind of ‘bed’ are we making for our batter?”
    2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and crushed hibiscus petals.
🌿Mindful Moment: Watch the hibiscus powder transform the flour — what shade appears? Take a moment to smell the mix.
💬 Prompt: “What color does the hibiscus turn the flour? Can you smell it? How does it feel to stir this color?”
    3. Mix the Wet Ingredients:
In another bowl, combine the milk or oat milk, maple syrup, oil, vanilla, and orange zest. Stir until evenly blended.
🌿Mindful Moment: As you zest the orange, pause to breathe deeply. Let the scent fill your chest.
💬 Prompt: “What does this orange smell like? What memory or feeling shows up with it?”
    4. Combine Gently:
Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients.
Pour the wet ingredients into the well of the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
🌿Mindful Moment: As you stir, watch the textures and colors blend. Let the process be slow and satisfying.
👧 Kid Prompt: “Can you stir slowly and notice the colors changing? What do you see happening in the bowl?”
    5. Pour and Bake:
Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
Bake 40–45 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted into the centre of the loaf comes out clean.
Let cool in the pan 10 minutes before removing and serving.
🌿Mindful Moment: As the loaf bakes, notice how the scent fills the room. Can you sit nearby for a few quiet breaths?
💬 Prompt: “What kind of mood is in the air while the loaf bakes? Cozy, excited, peaceful?”
